The structured packing materials can be classified into two main types based on their structural characteristics: corrugated type and non-corrugated type. The former is further divided into vertical corrugated type and horizontal corrugated type; the latter is further divided into grid type and plate type, etc.
Among the structured packing materials, the vertical corrugated packing material is the most widely used. The vertical corrugated packing material is further divided into plate corrugated type and mesh corrugated type. In the specification and model representation of corrugated packing materials, the numbers generally represent their specific surface area values, and the letters X and Y respectively represent that the corrugation inclination angle is 30° and 45°. For example, 400X indicates that this type of corrugated packing material has a specific surface area of 400 m2/m3 and a corrugation inclination angle of 30°. The X-type packing material has a lower pressure drop; the Y-type packing material has better mass transfer performance.
New types of corrugated packing materials can be made of stainless steel, copper, aluminum, pure titanium, molybdenum titanium, etc. They have been widely used in the fields of spices, pesticides, fine chemicals, and petrochemicals. Structured packing materials include mesh, wire mesh, orifice plates, and extruded orifice plates, etc.
